The Radio 1 Story Part 2, "We'll Never Play Status Quo Again"
Hi everyone
Last week as part of the Music Machine, I told you the first part of the Radio 1 Story, the first 30 years. This week, at 2 PM Eastern, 7 PM UK, we have the second episode.
Most people can remember where they were on the day of Live Aid in 1985. You may have your own special memories about that event, the greatest concert the world has ever seen. We’ll be hearing about that, together with details of the personalities heard on Radio 1, many of whom became just as popular as the groups and artists they were playing. And then there were the features of the shows themselves. Who could forget Simon Bates with “Our Tune”, Steve Wright’s Afternoon Boys, Confessions (which was part of the Simon Mayo Breakfast Show), Adrian Juste’s comedy inserts, to name but a few. There was also that all important interview conducted by Radio 1 just before John Lennon was killed.
I’ll also talk extensively about the change in music policy and personalities which took place in the 1990’s to ensure the station could once again appeal to young people, the change of wavelength from 247 metres to 275 and 285 (including the song recorded to reflect it), and Radio 1’s eventual 24-hour FM on air presence.
It’s all to come and much more this Saturday on

I hope you enjoy it!
