Tomorrow it will be time for another edition of Golden Years, 7 PM UK, 3 PM Eastern, www.the-bell.net.
This week we’re going back to 1980, as usual with news clips, movie summaries and the music. We’ll also hear news events and audio material reflecting them.
This was the year Adam and the Ants were in the charts, the Police were so lonely, John Lennon sadly died, and “the lady was not for turning”. There were many significant sporting events too which we will focus upon.

Hi to everyone
This week on Saturday, 2 PM Eastern, 7 PM UK, I will present Golden Years, looking at 1978.
There was a lot of great music during this year, and I’ll be playing some of the most popular songs together with some more obscure ones which did make the chart but which you may have forgotten about. I’ll tell you the background to some of them too, such as why they were written.
This week we also have plenty of audio archive material recalling the news events, movies and TV of the year.

This was the year lots of people loved neighbours on TV, Margaret Thatcher became the longest serving Prime Minister of England, and new licencing laws allow pubs to stay open all day in England and Wales. Plus there was good music from Tiffany, Belinda Carlisle and the Pet Shop Boys.

Hi everyone
I hope you can join me, Brian Hartgen, for Golden Years this Saturday at 2 PM Eastern, 7 PM UK. This is where we relive a year gone by in sound and music.
In this year, the Beatles invaded America, America was about to go to war, Harold Wilson became Prime Minister, mods and rockers were out in full force in the UK and Radio Caroline would go on air in March. In film, we had Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady and Gold Finger. We’ll be hearing about those and some of the best music which shaped the decade.

Apart from the heatwave which struck Britain, the year produced some of the best songs from the 70’s. We’ll be hearing some of those, recalling the news events through narration and audio archive material, we’ll remember the TV shows you were watching and the best selling box office movies as well!

As you may know, the Music Machine is not being produced at the moment on a Saturday. However, we are able to bring you a show called Golden Years.
During this show, we’ll focus on a specific year, playing the classics and certainly songs you may not have heard for a while. We’ll also recall the news and memorable events of the year too.

Clothes are of course key when it comes to trying to win attention. But what about the songs which refer to them? Dresses, socks, skirts, jumpers, shirts, socks, and so on.
